Have you ever been on a website and felt dizzy trying to navigate it? There are so many menu options and you can’t figure out where to go next. Or there’s so much information jammed onto the page, you leave the site because you can’t be bothered to read it all? Are your website visitors feeling the same way about your site?
Creating a clean and organized website is vital to having a website that converts visitors into customers. Here are 3 steps for an organized website.
Keep your main navigation at 8 pages or less. Too many options causes confusion to your website’s visitors.
Try moving less vital pages, like a resource page with your favorite business tools, to the footer. Same with social media links. Having these in your main navigation will distract visitors from the main action you want them to take.
Having multiple calls to action on each page will lead your website visitors throughout your website. However, each one should only lead to one destination.
The reason for this is you want to make the journey easy for your visitor. Providing too many options is overwhelming and leads to confusion.
Again, it needs to be super clear where your site visitor needs to go next.
One exception is your homepage because it’s meant to be an overview of the other pages with a call to action leading to each individual page. You’re still guiding them through their journey, but they are able to choose where they want to go.
You have so much information you want to share with your website visitors. Sometimes it’s hard to know how to make it digestible.
Having one giant paragraph in the middle of the page is a great way to NOT have people read the info on your website. Generally, people just skim through and find the big details. So how do you provide all this without it being overwhelming?
