Does blogging on Showit seem confusing? You want to make the switch to Showit but you’re not quite sure what’s going on? Well today I’m going to walk you through the process of how Showit and WordPress work together. Showit uses WordPress for blogging which means that your blog post is written in WordPress and then your Showit website pulls that information into your Showit design. Below, you’ll learn how blogging on Showit works and hopefully make this seem a little less daunting. Let’s go!
To start, your blog layout is designed inside Showit. On the left side panel, under the “Site” tab you’ll see three different sections: Pages, Blog Templates, and Site Canvases. “Blog Templates” is where your blog design and your post design lives. When you click the “Blog” option you’ll see your main Blog Page design. In the right side panel under Template Info, the WordPress Template option should say “Post List”.
Everything you see here are placeholders that will pull information from your WordPress account (which Showit will set up for you on their servers). This is not where you’ll be writing your blog posts. On your main blog landing page there may be placeholders for a blog featured picture, blog post title, date, categories, excerpt and a button to read that post. Depending on your blog design, you may have all or only some of these. No worries, it’s fine! It all depends on how your Blog Post design is set up.
The “Single Post” page houses your individual blog posts. This page will pull your actual blog post information from WordPress and display your posts. It is also found in the left panel, under “Blog Templates” and will look similar to this and the WordPress Template will have “Single Post” in the Template Info on the right side panel.
Again, this is not where you will write your blog posts – these are only placeholders that will pull the info from WordPress. So now you’re ready to start blogging. Before you begin though, make sure your blog migration or setup has been submitted to Showit support so that you have an active WordPress account on their server. Follow the directions here and do that step first. Depending upon the size of your existing blog, if you are migrating over, or starting a new blog, it can take a couple of business days for your blog to be set up.
Once your blog is set up and ready to go you’ll go over to WordPress at https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin to login (it should be that same username and password as your Showit account) and start blogging!
From here you simply start blogging! You’ll go to Posts – Add New Post – and type away! You can preview your blog post before you publish it, just to make sure everything is looking perfect!
Once you have published your blog post, you’ll be able to see it on your live website! Exciting!!
Hopefully that all makes sense and helps explain how exactly blogging in Showit + WordPress works!
