Trying to figure out how to increase traffic to your website? As a small business owner you have a million things on your to-do list including bringing in new leads to your business. Today I’m breaking down 5 easy ways to increase traffic to your website to help grow your business.
SEO is the practice of optimizing your website so it will rank higher in search engines (aka. Google)
The ultimate goal is to reach page one of a keyword search. The question is how to get that number one spot.
Instead of trying to rank for one keyword, which is competitive and high volume, you want to focus on long tail keywords. These are phrases that are 3 words or more that zone in on your niche. For example, if you’re a photographer, instead of trying to rank for “photography” opt for something like, “Niagara Wedding Photography”. Or if you’re a coach try “Mindset coach for entrepreneurs”. When writing your content focus on these long tail keywords and incorporate variation on them as well.
Images that are too large can really slow down your site’s loading time, which can greatly impact your ranking. A slow loading time can also affect the user experience of your site. Using a site like TinyPNG is a great way to compress your images without sacrificing photo quality.
Blogging is a great way to really increase traffic to your website. By creating strong content regularly can expand your reach in the interwebs, and therefore, helps it to be found. You want to find a sweet spot between what you offer and what your ideal clients are searching for. Make sure the content is high quality and in depth, about 1,000 – 3,000 words. Google wants to show the best of the best.
As I use Showit for my web designs, the blogging is done through WordPress for blogging. Using the Yoast SEO plugin, you can ensure every blog post is not only well-written, but is also optimized.
If it’s not clear right away what your blog post is about, why are people going to click on it? You want the title to be clear and concise. Think about what questions your ideal clients have and what words they are using in a Google search. For example, “5 Ways to Boost Productivity for Entrepreneurs”, or “Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer”. These sample post titles let the reader know exactly what they are going to learn.
In reality, Pinterest is more of a search engine instead of a social media site. People are always there looking for new inspiration, advice, and how-to’s. By adding your latest blog post to Pinterest you are exposing your content to millions of Pinterest users. I recommend using Tailwind for Pinterest pin scheduling, so you can easily pin and re-pin your content. No need to constantly be on Pinterest (unless you’re like me and can spend hours on it!).
With every new blog post, share the post on your social media accounts – Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, TickTock. Focus on the platforms where your potential clients are hanging out. Don’t worry about being in all the places. You want to focus on the platforms most likely to convert your audience members to clients or customers.
Along with sharing on the day the post is published, don’t be afraid to revisit your evergreen content in the future. This way someone who may have missed it, will now be introduced to that post you wrote 6 months ago on “6 Ways to Create an Organized Office”.
These 5 ways to increase website traffic are a great place to start. Which of these will you try out first?
