I'm Stephanie, brand and website designer with a love for helping women build their dream business. I'm here to help you get get that custom look for your business - without the custom price.
Have you ever wondered what is involved in working with a brand & web site designer? It’s a big step in your business, and if you’ve never worked with a designer it’s hard to know what to expect. In this post, I’ll be sharing a look inside my brand & web design process to help take away some of the uncertainty.
My process is broken down into two main parts – brand design and web site design. It is then broken down into five stages: pre-work, brand development, brand identity design, Showit website design and project wrap up.
Pre-work Stage – preparing for the brand & website design, including Brand Clarity & Web Site Design Questionnaires.
Brand Development Stage – determining the concept and direction for your brand.
Brand Identity Stage – creating the main logo, colour palette, alternative logos, sub marks, and typography pallete; design up to four brand collateral pieces of your choice.
Showit Website Design Stage – content (copy and images) provided for new site; design of Showit website; branding elements for the pages; and design up to five pages based on content and design elements.
Project Wrap Up – design of final Brand Style Guide to showcase all the brand elements; preparation and delivery of final files.
If you’re interested in working with me on your brand & website design, fill out my brand & website design inquiry form and tell me more about your business, your style and any additional details you might have.
After Inquiry, I’ll respond to you within 1-3 business days with more details, open start dates & more. If you decide to move forward, you;ll receive a contract & invoice for the 50% deposit to secure your spot in my calendar.
After the first invoice is paid and a contract is signed, I’ll send you my Brand Clarity & Web Site Design Questionnaires where you will dig deep into the heart of your business to build a strong foundation for your brand. Also, you can create your own shared Pinterest board of inspiration made up of colour pallettes, texture, patterns, design elements, and any images that capture the aesthetic of the brand you’re striving to create.
Once your Brand Clarity Questionnaire is complete, it’s time to start the inspiration process. After reviewing your worksheets, I will begin coming up with a concept and direction for your brand. I’ll present my ideas for the overall aesthetic of your new brand, through a visual mood board. All of this is based on what you have provided through your branding worksheets, so in many ways I’ll be reiterating the heart behind the work we’re doing, establishing the direction in which we’re moving, and making sure we’re moving forward with a united vision.
You will have the opportunity to make edits and revise anything you see on the mood board in order to make sure we’re working with the perfect visual inspiration for what comes next – the design process!
Now that the visual inspiration for your brand is represented perfectly through your mood board, we’ll move onto designing your brand identity! I will create one complete brand identity including your main logo, alternate logo, sub marks, coordinating graphics and collateral pieces…everything! Your entire brand will be presented to you all at once so you can see your new brand in full context. I have found when you see your entire brand at once, you can see how each individual piece works to complement the next.
Before I start designing & developing your Showit website, I’ll need finalized copy and images for all pages of your new site. You’ll upload your content into our shared folder on Google Drive. (If you require some assistance with creating your copy, I have some handy dandy cheat sheets to help you out!)
Before and during designing the five pages of your website, I’ll create additional website design elements to complement your site. They can be simple icons/illustrations, call to action buttons, image holders, dividers, hello or email signatures.
Based on your content and the design elements I created, I’ll design and develop your new site. They can be any pages of your choice like Home, Blog, About, Contact, Services etc. As we are using the Showit platform your site will be one-of-a-kind! No web site design templates used here!
To finalize the brand & web design process, I will create a Brand Style Guide PDF that you can keep right where you can always access it. This will be an invaluable resource for you to stay consistent in your brand identity and brand message after our work together is done. This will include all colour pallette codes (RGB, CMYK, and Hex codes), typography pallette, a how-to guide on the use of each design element, your brand message – everything we worked so hard to create! Also, depending on the scope of your project a fully branded Welcome Package or Investment Guide will be created for you to wow new or potential client with.
Once you approve your brand identity, brand collaterals & Showit website design, I’ll start prepping your final files including vectors, PNGs, JPGs and PDFs both for website and print usage. I’ll send them via our shared folder on Google Drive. A walk-through on how to use your new Showit site.
Now it’s time to share your new brand & website with the rest of the world! Upload your new brand & website on your social media profiles and print your collaterals. Once you’re ready I’ll write a portfolio blog post about your brand & website and this feature can give your business a boost.
I hope this breakdown has helped answer some questions you may have about working with a brand & web site designer. If you have anymore questions, I’m here to for you!
